About the hotel

The hotel is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Oxfordshire and Cotswolds regions. The university city of Oxford is within easy reach for excellent shopping. The closest airports include London Heathrow (about 96 km), West Midlands International (102 km), Birmingham International (115 km), London Luton (122 km), Bristol (124 km), London Gatwick (150 km) and Heathrow (164 km). The name of the hotel has rather an unusual origin. In days gone by, wealthy farming gentry sent their offspring to be educated in Oxford and would arrive there complete with their horses and hunting dogs. The colleges allowed their students to stable horses but not the dogs! With nowhere else to house the animals, the proprietor of the local inn offered an invaluable 'dog sitting' service and as such the hotel received its name. In recent times, it has still been requested that they provide a dog sitting service. The hotel is non-smoking throughout. There are 20 rooms in total at this historical hotel, where guests are welcomed in the lobby. Guests can enjoy a drink at bar and dine in the restaurant. Internet access and a car park are also available. The rooms each include a telephone, daily housekeeping service, a TV, en suite bathroom with a shower and bath, and tea and coffee making facilities. A double bed, radio, Internet access and an ironing set also come as standard. The hotel is close to Frilford Health Golf Club and is perfect for a relaxing golfing break. The restaurant specialises in good simple English food. The bar also serves delicious meals, together with traditional ales. By car: From M4 junction 13 onto A34, travel on A34 north. Take the Marcham Interchange exit and turn left at the roundabout onto the A415 towards Marcham/Witney. Take the first right towards Shippon, Dalton Barracks and Frilford, and travel about 4.9 km. The hotel will be on the right-hand side of the road.
